# Soapfilm Wire Chalice

Soap films on a wire chalice, coloured by real interference: thickness is carried in nanometres, the optical path difference is taken through the refracted angle, and each channel beats against its own wavelength, so the colours run Newton's series and the drained top goes properly black instead of pale. The films are catenoids, the surface soap actually makes between two rings. It rests as a wide two-ring hourglass, narrows into a pinched goblet, then packs into a five-ring lantern.
